Site Design
find a Peacemaker.org is designed as a dynamic web site that automatically updates itself as new information is added to an underlying database. Each page is linked to the database. The database is populated by a team of volunteer "Virtual Editors." Any responsible individual can become a "Virtual Editor" simply by registering and obtaining a Password to login into the database.A small volunteer "Editorial Advisory Board" reviews the information submitted by the Virtual Editors before publishing it to the web site.
Although the web site is designed for minimal maintenance, there is a downside. Peace & Justice organization input information is constrained to about 30 different items/categories/data fields. Some of these are constrained by the number of words/characters allowed.
For example, the "Organization Address " is limited to 100 characters. Generally these computer "constraints" are not an obstacle from a practical perspective. If these "constraints" do become a nuisance, we can generally reprogram and relax the restrictions.

Design - Development Status
3 Sep 06 (Version 1.2.1) Added a search by "State/Proviince" using a pull down list of the States/Provinces in the U.S. and Canada. Added another attribute for each organization: "Key_issues" as they pertain to the proposed U.S. Department of Peace and Nonviolence. The migration from MS Access to MySQL has been very successful, thanks to a number of php & MySQL tools including: phpMyAdmin, MySQL Query Browser and MySQL Migration Tool.
5 Mar 06 (Version 1.2) Migrated all MS Access databases to MySQL because of "Too many client tasks" errors with Access. Now running on Cold Fusion talking to MySQL. Still debugging.
